The purpose of this is to give me some background but to also ensure that I am meeting your needs and not my agenda. -
Ideally, this is a family consultation as parenting is rarely a one person task. So I am very happy to have parents, grandparents, extended family who support you with raising your children and even the nanny if you employ one.
Of course we understand that life gets in the way of making this possible so there will be an email summary forwarded to you after the session so that you can share the information with all those involved. -
Zoom consultations are every bit as effective as home visit consultations. I have many years experience working with families in an online and telehealth capacity and can say with confidence that they deliver the same effective outcome for families.
Whether we are working around your child’s sleep, feeding or behaviour it is important to know that. This will be a relaxed non-threatening experience that you are in control of! Whether we are working around your child’s sleep, feeding or behaviour it is important to know that this will be a relaxed non-threatening experience that you are in control of! At no point will you be expected to undertake anything that doesn’t align with your parenting values.
We will take a little time to get to know each other, explore your parenting values, share information with each other and I will also offer education around child development, sleep development and supporting the family’s emotional health while making changes with your child’s behaviour.
We will ensure that you outline what changes it is you would like to make, we can set some really achievable goals and importantly work together to create a parenting plan that will be manageable and aligns with your child’s development and ability .
If it is sleep we are working with, We will have the opportunity to look at your child’s sleep environment, read their tired cues, support the child in a practice of the “new way” of settling for sleep, learn how your child responds to the support being offered so that we are not expecting your child to do anything they are not capable of doing in a supported way, this will ensure that the behaviour changes that you and your child make are effective and lasting. -
When we book your appointment we will try and align with you child’s routine give or take half an hour but we know that children are not robots and they will do what they need to do around sleep and feeding. So if we are out of sync we can communicate via text on the day and see if there is room to adjust the appointment. However it is my experience that as the appointments are 2-3hrs in duration at some point in this time frame your child will be tired/hungry and we will have the chance to practice what we have discussed.
