The Solihull Approach

The Solihull Approach to parenting is intended for parents/carers who want to know more about sensitive and effective parenting. It aims to develop a framework of thinking about parent/child relationships which can be developed into a lifelong skill. This in turn promotes effective behaviour management. It explores issues such as:

  • Tuning into children

  • Exploring feelings

  • Parenting styles

  • Communication - what is being communicated through behaviour

  • Challenging behaviours and what they might mean

  • Sleep and feeding patterns

  • Behavioural difficulties

Solihull Parent Groups

Understanding Your Baby /Understanding Your Child is different to most parenting education programs because it helps parents to focus on their ability to read their childs behaviour which results in parents better able to meet the baby/child needs more effectively. We also focus on those moments of warmth between you and your child so that they happen more often day to day. Parents will often report that it helps them to learn about themselves not just their children. Parenting after all is not just about the kids!

The Understanding Your Baby groups run for 8wks with 2hrs of content each week. Because the groups are longer than most parenting programs we are able to go into a lot more depth giving you a more individualised experience. It is a real commitment of your time but often parents tell us that they don’t want the group to come to an end! And very often, life long friendships are developed after the group finishes

Understanding Your Baby is for people who want to make long term changes and gain a toolkit of ideas and strategies that they can continue to use as their family grows. It is not about a quick fix, its not about managing problems, its about figuring out what is going on behind their child’s behaviour and helping baby/child with their emotional development. I can thoroughly recommend it for anyone who wants to be the best parent/carer/grandparent they can possibly be.
